Water Avens – Geum rivale
Plant : Water Avens is a native wild flower and common on river flood plains and wet woodland. Tall slender stems grow from a basal rosette, up to 50 cm tall. Individual drooping flowers grow at the ends of the stems. The fruit has numerous hooked hairs around its surface. These enable seeds to travel significant distances on the passing animals. It is a member of the Rosaceae family.
Flower : The flower has the characteristic five petals and numerous stamen of the Rosaceae family. The sepals are purple and the petals are cream. It flowers between May and September.
