Cowslip – Primula veris

Plant : Cowslips are a native species and grow in hedgerows, woodland and meadows in rural Northumberland.  Slender, leafless stems rise from a basal rosette.  The flowers grow in small groups from the top of the stem.  It is a member of the Primulaceae family.

Flower : The small, trumpet shaped, yellow flowers have five petals, five sepals and five stamen.  They flower in April and May.
