Knapweed – Centaurea scabiosa
Plant : Knapweed is a native wild flower, which grows in abundance in shrub land, hedgerows and woodlands, in rural Northumberland. The plant produces slender stems, which grow up to 1 m tall. It is a member of the Asteraceae family and is attractive to bees and butterflies.
Flower : The purple flower head is made up of numerous florets and it flowers between June and September.
